Historians of Netherlandish Art (HNA) announce call for sessions for 2010 conference in Amsterdam

The theme of the coming HNA conference is “Crossing Boundaries.” The meeting is to take place in Amsterdam on 27-29 May 2010.

Call for sessions and workshops

The conference Programme Committee is soliciting Session and Workshop proposals for the upcoming conference of the Historians of Netherlandish Art to be held in Amsterdam, May 27th - 29th, 2010. The title chosen for the conference is "Crossing Boundaries" and we welcome suggestions which address the erection, dismantling and breaching of boundaries, natural and artificial, in the widest possible sense: geographical, methodological, temporal, political, artistic, as well as the boundaries imposed by and on the different media. Contributions will also be considered which examine the rich cultural heritage of our host city, Amsterdam, and surrounding artistic centres.

As part of the conference activities we hope to visit the exhibition Willem Van Haecht en de Antwerpse kunstkamer (The Hague, Mauritshuis) and thus invite proposals related to the genre but also on the wider aspects of collecting and display. Sessions will be two hours long with a maximum of four papers. Session Chairs and speakers must be members of HNA at the time of the conference.

We also invite proposals for workshops in which relatively small groups of people discuss particular issues in the field. Topics can but must not be related to the overall conference theme, and we especially encourage suggestions which focus on and possibly take place in Amsterdam's many cultural institutions (Rijksmuseum, Amsterdams Historisch Museum, Maritime Museum Rembrandthuis, Town Hall ("Royal Palace"), churches etc.). Workshops serve to stimulate dialogue and proposals should outline how discussion will be generated. Please state your maximum number of participants.
