On a journey to a Dutch city in the Golden Age: this is the subject of this presentation of major works from the museum's rich collection. Dozens of paintings bring 17th-century Haarlem back to life. People approach the city by water or by land, as its silhouette emerges on the horizon. Then they pass through the city gates and walk across the Grote Markt. Genre paintings show the city-dwellers' lives, zooming in on them in their portraits. Finally, in still lifes the flowers, food and treasured objects of the time are displayed.
